You need to agree with your appraiser a place to meet.
If possible this will be in your usual consulting room, or a neutral meeting room.
Brief the staff to expect the appraiser and not to disturb you.
The appointment will usually take 2 to 4 hours to complete.
The appraisal discussion is made up of two parts:
Most GPs find the appraisal is supportive and encouraging, but it may contain some challenges and guidance on how to improve.
Have paper and pen handy to take notes of these suggestions.
At the end of the appointment you will be asked to draw up a personal development plan (PDP) for the forthcoming year.
It is helpful if you have already thought about this before the appraisal.
